I haven’t updated this in like.. forever. I suck. And not because anybody in particular has been checking this little space, but because finding things that I like to look at or that inspire me makes me happy and so it’s kinda wompity that I haven’t taken the time to do that.

What have I been doing? Well, lots of work and traveling for work. But I’ve also been working on Thumb Wars, my first campaign with Do Something. Exciting! To learn more about it check out the PSA below or visit ThumbWars.org.

And although I went alone, it was super adorable. I will definitely be returning- but next time with a friend. And perhaps also when it’s outside again (and warm!). On another note, though my phone takes okay pictures, I should really be taking my camera with me.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

While I don’t have a Valentine myself today, I’ve decided to handle things at home while watching some of my favorite romantic comedies. Top of the list? Lawrence Kasdan’s 1995 film French Kiss, starring Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline. No matter what mood I’m in this movie always makes me laugh, and I’m pretty sure that most girls can see even just a tiny bit of themselves in Kate’s character.

Retro-style redesigns

While technology has come a long way in making imagined worlds seem more real, there’s something undeniably, well.. awesome about these retro re-designed movie posters by Claudia Varosio. But my favorite examples of this design trend by FAR are M.S. Corley’s Penguin Classics-style Harry Potter covers.

Sophie Blackall is a talented and kinda quirky (check out her apartment decor) illustrator who I think is living in New York. I’m really loving her work.

Yuken Teruya

The first bit of Teruya’s work that I came across was a series entitled “Corner Forest,” in which the artist cut detailed trees out of toilet paper rolls and meticulously arranged them to create beautiful forests.

After taking some time to look over his website, I saw that Teruya’s featured projects all seem to center around taking everyday objects and transforming them into items of whimsy or socially provocative pieces. Aside from “Corner Forest,” my favorite series was definitely “Notice- Forest Series.” Basically I really love when an artist can make you look twice at something that would normally be cast away without a moment’s hesitation.

Tom Otterness

Before I bothered to look up his work, Tom Otterness was all around me here in New York City. From his cute (and often times, kinda creepy) Life Underground series in the 14th Street A/C/E station to the piece he has in my neighborhood up in Harlem, Otterness’ work has been a part of my experience here.
