Happy Holidays!
Flying home tomorrow for Christmas with the family, so this is me officially wishing you all a happy holiday season. Have fun and be safe wherever you are, whoever you’re with and whatever you do/don’t celebrate.

After I got laid off (this dang economy) I did lots of things, including writing little bits and pieces about what I was going through and how I felt. Here is a tidbit of that, from right after “the incident,” which- coincidentally- is described below:
“Your position no longer exists. Effective immediately.”
Just like that, as though he were talking about a clerical error, or the fact that we could no longer expense business lunches our Vice President effectively kicked me in the metaphorical a** and changed my entire world. Although, in retrospect I saw it coming- the moment I walked into that small dark office and noticed that nobody but me had a notebook and pen. As soon as he started speaking in that smug, matter-of-fact voice I knew that my time there had come to and end.
My Christmas wish list:
1.) Real running shoes.
2.) Blu-ray Disc player
3.) My BSB performance/concert/behind-the-scenes tapes on DVD
And of course world peace and all that. OH and a puppy!
I know I mostly use this as a place to share things I find interesting and little bits of things I’ve worked on, but when I decided to post what is currently my favorite short film, it made me do a little thinking and I just wanted to say a few things.
And those things center around the idea of modern love. Like.. where IS it? Sometimes I feel like it’s some elusive myth. With the huge surge in technology and social networks it feels like people, though as connected as we could be, are more distant than ever. Dates are surprising and courtships are altogether shocking… and while I don’t think that the idea of traditional Christian courtship in its original sense is for me, the current state of heterosexual female/male relations is disheartening (to say the least).
Even so, I soldier on in my faith that whatever is supposed to happen with me will happen for me. And even though I could argue that my ideas about romantic love have been ingrained into my psyche through a great deal of problematic socialization- things like this still make me happy…
And there you have it. A sweet, short movie that encapsulates a lot of what I feel living in a city like this, and beautifully shows that all hope isn’t lost. Let’s hope it’s right about that.
The MoMA is having an exhibit of Tim Burton’s works- some personal, professional, some just plain crazy. And you know how I like my artists. I’m going to try to figure out a day and time when I can go and see it- unfortunately I’m not a MoMA member & it’s a special exhibit so I’ll have to pay the $20 for a ticket. Grumble.
HOWEVER I just found out that Burton has the EXACT SAME BIRTHDAY as me. August 25th! He is in the company of both myself and Sean Connery. How awesome a group is THAT?
I spotted this on the side of a random building in Williamsburg back in ‘08 when I was headed to BK Adorned. Not only is it an homage to what was in my opinion one of the best cartoons on Fox, but it’s a really great multimedia piece. Each character is a separate piece, and the grass is totally astroturf. Fun!

But also very, very weird. What can I even do with it, without the people I’d need to converse with the most? Oh me, oh my.
Drew this with markers a while back. Then ended up using part of it for this blog. Yipee!
